Have you got the patience to be a WAHM?
By Leigh Hunt on October 23rd, 2007
Indi is such a mummy’s girl at the moment, which of course I love
She really wants mummy to be by her side every time she wakes in the night, which is cute, but just recently she seems to be waking quite a lot! Never having been one to let her cry when she obviously needs me, I do of course pander to her every need. Yes, I’m a sucker!
, but with a face like this…
Anyway, the last few nights I’ve been able to do very little to reduce my mountainous To-Do list. In some ways I find this REALLY frustrating, but then something you soon come to realise when you run a WAHM business is that the needs of your family (which always come first) can have an affect on the pace at which your business can grow. You can outsource tons of the day-to-day work, but still, developing new ideas and learning new techniques for doing business takes lots of time and energy. Always much more than you think.
So a good piece of advice I had that I’d like to pass on is to always expect your business to grow much, MUCH slower than you expected. This holds true for any business, but especially when you’re a WAHM with so much else on your plate.
It’s just a fact of WAHM life, so be prepared for times when you feel things aren’t moving forward quickly enough. Accept it as part of the process, and most importantly, expect it.

All very true Leigh....I’m just getting through half term at the moment, and totally have to manage my expectations of how much I’m going to get done.....but on the plus side, I get to do some good fun stuff with the kids instead.Antonia

Great to read you can still be a successful WAHM with a baby waking in the night - my 5 month old has reverted to waking every 2 hours but i am still determined to become a WAHM
Thanks for the optimism!

I can relate to this. Although I’ve experienced growth over the last five years that I’m really proud of, it’s been rather modest and gentle growth rather than sweeping successes.
It just can’t be avoided, especially if you have another baby midway through as I did (3 years ago).
No matter how hard you try to limit your maternity leave, a pregnancy and new baby s bound to have a massive impact on business growth.
So despite the slowness, I think any wahm should be immensely proud of themselves to achieve growth full stop under the circumstances!
During my pregnancy year I managed to sustain the same level of income achieved the previous year, with no growth. I was very proud of that!
