A Sure Fire Way To Boost Your Confidence and Banish Fear
By Leigh Hunt on November 12th, 2007
There’s no doubt about it. Staying within your comfort zone is… well… comfortable.
But if you don’t venture outside of your usual boundaries every now and again, you could start to feel bored, or worse… trapped.
Trapped in a mediocre life, when you could be leading a life full of new challenges and excellence.
Is there something you need to do, or know you should do, but it scares the living daylights out of you?
Whatever it is, get out there and do it!
Harness your fear, and turn it into a burning ambition to succeed and overcome whatever it is that scares you.
Almost without exception, it’s the things that scare you the most that teach you the most. It’s the things that fill you with fear and dread that give you the most satisfaction and joy when you conquer them. Fact.
Here’s a personal story to illustrate. When I was travelling in Australia, my now husband snuck out of our tent in the early hours and came back to tell me that the next morning we were going to be flying to 12,000 feet to jump out of a plane. Gulp!
Now, we’d often talked about how we’d love to do a skydive. Thinking it was never actually going to happen, I was full of bravado: “Yeah, yeah, that would be FABULOUS!”
Actually, the idea scared me to death. I’m afraid of heights.
Anyway, when he came back and told me this news you can imagine how terrified I felt. Still, my pride got the better of me and the next morning I jumped out of that plane at 12,000 feet (strapped to a pro of course!).
And do you know what, I absolutely LOVED it! Freefalling through the sky for 40 seconds has to go down as one of my all-time, most amazing experiences. As soon as my feet hit the ground, I wanted to get right back up in that plane and do it all over again… and again… and again.
So you see, it’s the things that scare you the most that cause you to grow the most. Start taking the bull by the horns.
Then watch your confidence (and happiness) soar..
